“Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyse you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.” – Bernice Reagon
Why is this happening to me? I don’t understand. What did I do to deserve this…?
These are some of the question that can through our minds when we are confronted with a challenge.
And that’s paralyzing us because we can hardly think about anything else.
It’s almost like a temporary obsession.
Maybe you even catch yourself thinking that you have to change the subject, but that you just can’t stop talking about it.
The good news is that it doesn’t have to be like this.
Next time something unwanted happens to you, instead of getting stuck in “Why me?” say to your challenge “Try me!”
You can even directly talk to your challenge. Out loud!
Let’s just see how that works out for you…
Challenges make you stronger. They help you discover how strong you really are.
You tend to grossly underestimate how resilient you are.
And that’s not surprising, given that we also have a tendency to talk down on ourselves.
You can endure so much more than you give yourself credit for.
Does that mean that we should wish for a challenging life?
Of course not. Most of us don’t like to be struggling. Let’s face it, it sucks. Big time!
But when you get paralyzed by your struggles, they will last so much longer.
They can even radiate to other areas in your life, because you’re constantly upset and in a bad mood. That affects everything and everyone around you.
Try to see your challenges as a good thing. Even if it doesn’t feel like that in the moment, but they are.
See them as an opportunity to discover who you are.
You’ll come out of it stronger, more confident and proud of yourself.
