Be successful and win in life by beating the buzzer

It’s the pressure of perfectionism again

If you wait until you have all your ducks in a row, you will never get anywhere. To be successful and win, you have to go for it before you’re 100% ready.

Don’t wait until you’re sure you know the answer. Buzz when you think you might know the answer, or you’re dead in the water.

– Seth Godin

How does this great advice from Seth Godin apply to our everyday lives?

Especially women tend to hold themselves back when they think they can’t check all the required boxes. Sound familiar?

Imagine a job offer, where the required profile reads like a Christmas list, rather than skills that can reasonably be expected from one single person.

The company is looking for a neuroscientist who also finished 3 Ironmans, loves cooking 5-course meals while doing magic tricks – but unfortunately, you only speak the required English, French, and Russian.

You can’t check the box of “fluent in Turkish” as well. What a bummer, you’re such a loser!

Of course you’re not. We can’t let this affect us, your worth is not defined by irrealistic requirements like that.

It takes courage to leave your comfort zone

We need to be confident and believe in ourselves. Get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Like the Learning Ninja blog for me.

Go for it before you’re 100% ready. Trust in your ability to learn. Speak up – even if you’re not absolutely sure. What you already know is old news.

If you want to grow, you have to hit the buzzer before you know the answer. It’s scary, but it’s worth it.

When you put yourself out there and don’t die, it gives you more confidence for the next time you step out of your comfort zone.

Chances are, you won’t die, so why not give it a try? It’s much more likely that nothing bad will happen, you just need to get over yourself. Wouldn’t you agree?

Beating the buzzer can change your life!
Happy buzzing to you all.

Your turn

Do you have a good example when you just went for something even though it was “too soon”? Or are you on the fence right now and need more input? Please comment.
