3 Things You Must Know For Your Personal Growth

  • Post author:

Are you someone who’s having a hard time sticking to personal growth activities?

You start off with the best intentions and you really want to change your life, but somehow your initial motivation doesn’t last?

Here are a few typical reasons people don’t succeed

  • Now is not the right time
  • I don’t know how to do it
  • I don’t have time
  • I don’t think I can do it
  • I don’t have the money
  • It’s not worth the effort

I get it. These are definitely reasons that can get in the way.
Especially the sneaky last one. After all, your current situation may not seem that bad…

But here’s the hard truth: If you want to change your life and be successful, your personal growth has to be a priority.

Personal Growth: Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you

Without consistent effort, laser focus, and the right attitude you can’t get the life of your dreams.

But there’s hope

Imagine yourself a year from now (or even just two months) if you consistently start working on your goals today.
You can make so much progress if you stick to your personal growth goals.

And so to help you with this, I created this personal development mini-series for you. I want you to succeed this time.
Don’t you?

Part 1 shows you the benefits of personal development.

In part 2, you have a list of over 20 self-improvement activities you can choose from – so you get closer to your goals.

Part 3 explains why journaling is a powerful tool to stay on track, how it increases your motivation, and improves your mood.

This is part 4. And it’s about sticking to your self-improvement activities to make your dreams a reality.

It’s time to nail your personal growth

As I said before: You need to be committed to your personal growth.

Let’s get real here for a moment. How bad do you want it?

If you kinda sorta try, you kinda sorta get results

If you want your life to be different, you need to do something different.

Consistently!

Let’s see how you can do this

The first thing you need is to get clear on what you want. And I mean crystal clear.

If you don’t know where you want to go, you can’t get there

This may actually be your main problem right there.
If you don’t know exactly what it is you want, you don’t know which actions and steps you have to take to get there.

Who do you think will be successful at getting things done?

If your vision is blurry and vague, it’s over. Or it will be a painful and needlessly long journey.

Ask yourself these questions

  • What do you want?
  • Why do you want it?
  • How can you get it?
  • What happens if you don’t?

If you need help with this, I recommend Achieving your goals through clarity.

Align your priorities with your personal growth goals

Now that you’re hopefully a bit clearer on where you want to go, you need to get your priorities right.

Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing - Tony Robbins quote

Keep your goal top of mind. Put inspiring pictures and quotes where you can see them.

Even a single word or question is fantastic.

For a while, I simply put the words “Joy” and “Energy” on my fridge…

It makes you remember that you wanted to focus on these things more. Just like naturally sitting up straighter when someone talks about being hunched over all day.

Working towards your goals to change your life has to be a priority, or it won’t work. And it doesn’t have to be big things every day.

Start small

It’s not like you have nothing else to do…

So it’s okay if you start with small steps. There are always tiny things you can do that still bring you closer to the life of your dreams.

It can be as simple as doing a little research online. Or making a list of people you’re going to contact tomorrow. Maybe you simply sign up for a webinar next week.

Now, if you only do little things, it will take forever. But that would still be better than doing nothing.
Even with little steps, a lot can happen within a year.

But don’t keep it small

Of course, I want you to grow as much as possible. The more you leave your comfort zone, the better your chances to finally succeed.

You need a plan. Once you have a clear vision, you also get a better idea of what you have to do.

Personal Growth: Start your own business

Let’s go back to our vegan recipe example. What action steps are obvious right away?

  • Make a list of recipes to show
  • Set up a Youtube and Instagram Account
  • Get the right equipment
  • Learn how to make great videos
  • Film the first recipe video
  • Publish it
  • Work on getting views and followers

I’m not saying that this is all there is to it, but you immediately see plenty of things you could do. And once you have these bigger tasks, you can break them down into smaller tasks.

…simply because it’s clear what you want to do.

Having a clear direction feels great and gives your motivation the necessary boosts to keep going.

When you don’t have a precise idea of what you want, you don’t know where to start

Decide what you truly want and make an action plan of what you have to do to get there.

A plan has several benefits for your personal growth

  • You feel great because it all makes sense
  • Your brain will start integrating that you’re an action taker
  • It’s motivating to move in the right direction
  • Taking action becomes a no-brainer because you know what to do
  • A plan allows you to measure how far you’ve come

Personal growth comes down to this

1. Define your vision 2. Set the right goals 3. Measure your progress!

Especially with long-term goals, it’s crucial that you break them up into actionable steps and that you see that you’re making progress.

It signals to your brain that you are serious and it reduces analysis paralysis.
When your plan is mapped out, there is less (or no) confusion about what you have to do next.

When you think back to our vegan example, there were quite a few, clear steps to take, right? The same is true for your goals.

And don’t worry. You don’t have to have it all figured out. As long as you know the next few steps, you’re good.
