Creativity takes courage!
It’s so much safer to just go with the same old, same old.
If you’re only doing what you’re told, you don’t have to take responsibility for anything.
When you don’t question the rules, you don’t expose yourself to criticism.
Creativity makes you vulnerable
Thinking outside the box and speaking up for your ideas takes courage when the people around you aren’t open to change.
When you show people something you created and you are personally invested in, it’s like baring your soul in a way.
It can hurt if they reject your idea and can even feel like they’re rejecting you.
If they’re people you admire and whose opinion you value, you might need to step up your game.
But maybe their rejection has nothing to do with you. Maybe they are people who aren’t qualified to judge your work.
They may be higher up the chain, but that doesn’t mean their opinion is right. They’re not ready, they don’t listen and they think they know better.
Don’t get discouraged
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if other people approve of you.
It matters what you think. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
You’re the one who knows how much courage, perseverance and sacrifice it took to do whatever you did.
Of course, it hurts when others don’t acknowledge that. But in the end, it shouldn’t matter. Everything depends on perspective. You have to live up to your values.
So make yourself proud and give yourself credit! What are you really proud of?
Even if you’re proud that you picked up the phone this week to call someone although you were a little scared. Or for saying “no” to someone. Or for exercising regularly for a week…
Everything counts.
Maybe some day you will get through to them.
Be brave enough to be different!
