“You don’t drown by falling in water – you drown by staying there”
No one likes being in a crappy situation.
It’s frustrating, infuriating, or maybe even depressing.
It just feels terrible. You feel terrible.
The longer it lasts, the worse it gets
But have you ever tried looking for the silver lining?
Having the right mindset can help you tremendously.
When you experience bad situations, they can actually help you grow.
It’s all about the story you attach to it.
Scientists discovered that we as humans are naturally wired to default to negative thoughts.
This means, it takes a conscious effort to look at the positive side of your problem.
It’s hard to do when you’re completely absorbed by what’s happening.
But the more you do it, the easier it gets.
Don’t default to the negative
It will just make everything worse.
Falling in water isn’t bad if you get out of there fast.
nd your natural reflex is of course to get your butt out of the water.
Now, imagine you’re in the water…
and you get completely stuck in a negative story about what it all means…
“I’m in the water, I’m in the water. I can’t believe I’m in the water… Why does this always happen to me…?
What did I do to deserve this?
This is embarrassing…
I feel terrible, what if anyones notices…?
This is so hard, I just can’t do it…”
Don’t stay in the water!
The story doesn’t matter. You only made it up anyway.
You tend to look for meaning in everything, but this can hurt you.
The faster you can get over it, the quicker you can move on.
So get your butt out of the water! And don’t waste your time with ‘what if’s’
